Wouldn’t it be nice to have a smile that stops people in their tracks or lights up a room? Of course it would be. But here’s a better question:
What if you already have that smile and just don’t know it because you’re too busy hiding stained or misshapen teeth behind your hand?
Sometimes, we get so caught up in coping with our insecurities that we allow them to overshadow our attributes. When it comes to teeth and smiles, our mission at Soft Touch Dental is to address those insecurities and set the world’s smiles free. Sometimes doing so requires complex procedures, and other times, it’s as simple as sprucing up the teeth with dental veneers.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a thin, translucent layer of porcelain (or a composite resin) bonded to the front of teeth to improve their shape, size, and color. Porcelain is often the preferred material because of its stain resistant properties and ability to reflect light in a similar way that natural teeth do. Porcelain veneers improve not only the aesthetics of teeth, but also their strength and integrity.
Dental veneers are a great option for teeth that are:
Porcelain veneers offer a safe and conservative approach to getting that beautiful, radiant smile you’ve always wanted.
First step: It’s time to prep
Before any work can be done to your teeth, your dentist must give your teeth and gums a clean bill of health. If your gums are inflamed or prone to bleeding, it will be difficult to create a clean impression of your teeth and properly bond the veneers. So the first step, the most important step, is to get your mouth healthy. Remember, don’t skip the floss!
What happens next?
Typically the procedure is broken up into two separate appointments. During your first visit your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from the front surface of your teeth and take an impression of your teeth. The impression will then be sent to the dental laboratory where it will be used to custom make your veneers. This can take one to two weeks.
At the second appointment, your new veneers will be bonded to your teeth. Your dentist may paste the veneers to your teeth before permanently bonding them to make sure they fit correctly and that you are happy with how they look. If you are not satisfied, make sure you speak up. Your dentist can have the veneers sent back to the laboratory to be re-made.
Once bonded, you are good to go!
Taking care of your new smile
You’ll brush and floss your teeth as you normally would. Your dentist may want you to use a non-abrasive toothpaste and soft brush. If you take good care of them, your veneers can last up to 20 years!
