Multiple Implants

When a patient has lost several teeth rather than just one, multiple implants may be required to correct the situation. A fixed implant bridge is often used to anchor the new teeth in place. It’s difficult for dentures to supply the same stability and comfort as a dental implant bridge. With multiple implants, you will be able to enjoy eating a variety of foods you love, and the appearance of the facial bones will be preserved.

Installation of the fixed implant bridge

The first step is to install the implants, which generally will take a single visit to the dental clinic. The dentist will apply a temporary bridge so that your mouth can function normally once you get home. The implants will need time to fuse with your jawbone, and this time will vary according to the individual patient. During the final step when the permanent implant bridge is applied, your teeth will finally be able to withstand all the same chewing weight, wear and tear as your natural teeth.

An alternative to the implant bridge

If a fixed bridge is not viable, the client may receive a partial implant denture, which may be less comfortable than the bridge, but it achieves the same purpose. The partial denture is comprised of both metal and plastic, and is easy to install. The partial denture will keep the healthy surrounding teeth from migrating, and will help keep the area with the missing teeth free from infection and disease.

Hader bar dentures

Also referred to as a bar-retained denture, the hader bar denture consists of a slender metal bar that connects to a number of implants (anywhere from 2 to 5) and is designed to comply with the natural curvature of the jawbone. The denture is applied over the hader bar and is fastened into place through the use of tiny dental clips.

All-on-4 implants

The all-on-4 implants create the possibility of installing just 4 implants per arch, rather than the traditional 6-8 required to replace all the teeth in one half of the mouth. All-on-4 implants have many benefits, including convenience, reduced treatment and recovery time, lowered costs, and durability. Please see Dr. Fakhimi for a consultation at his San Diego office suite to determine if all-on-4 implants could be a solution for your missing teeth.
